(Authors must create an account or logon before they can begin submitting a manuscript)

Submission Overview

Most articles are invited by the Editor-in-Chief, Guest Editors or the Editorial Board from established experts in relevant fields. Unsolicited submissions are also welcome and will be evaluated by an editor for alignment with the journal’s aims and scope.

Manuscripts will undergo peer review for acceptance or rejection. The authors are blinded to the Reviewers, but the Reviewers will see the Authors (Anonymous Reviewer/Disclosed Author)

Due to the journal’s specific aims, editors may recommend significant revisions or formatting changes to meet publication standards. Submissions not meeting minimum quality standards will require major revisions or be rejected. Ensure your manuscript is well-structured, following the format for the 4 primary article types.

 Aims and Scope

SMART-MD Journal of Precision Medicine, an online and printed peer-reviewed journal, publishes evidence-based articles by qualified academic, industry and health-care professionals. The target audience is practicing physicians and healthcare workers who seek clinical decision support (CDS) for complex conditions, including insights delivered through human genetic variants. SMART-MD (System Models and Advanced Report Technologies for Medical Decisions) focuses on precision medicine for functional diseases, chronic inflammatory disorders, cancer risk, early detection, and complex syndromes where understanding underlying mechanisms – including systems that are impacted by functional genetic variants - aids clinical decision-making. Articles provide point-of-care clinical decision support, covering symptom management, stepwise evaluation, optimal use of genetic and biomarker data, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options. The Journal welcomes critical reviews and expert guidance in four formats: SMART Topics, SMART Approach’s, SMART Medical Reviews, and SMART System Reviews.

Important Considerations

  • Ethics and Consent: Obtain and note ethical approval or informed consent in the manuscript, if applicable. Remove patient identifiers from text and images. Refer to ICMJE guidelines for participant protection.
  • Publication Criteria: Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Prior abstract presentation at scientific meetings is acceptable; disclose details at the manuscript’s end.
  • Permissions: Authors must secure permission to publish materials (e.g., photos, datasets) and confirm all listed authors consent to authorship. Research must comply with the study country’s ethics requirements. For reused material, upload copyright holder permission as a supplementary file and cite the source in the legend.
  • Copyright: Authors must assign copyright to SMART-MD Publishing LLC, warranting the manuscript as original and unpublished. The corresponding author, with co-authors’ consent, transfers exclusive copyright to the publisher, who may license content with proper author attribution.
  • Open Access (OA): Journal content is free to Registered Users (subscribers). Sign up for free access and opt into the journal’s contact list for updates.
  • Publication Cost: Invited authors publish at no cost. Unsolicited submissions should contact the Editorial Office for consideration and potential Open Access fees.

Before submitting, follow the checklist to ensure your manuscript meets these standards.
